Individual Healthy Eating & Nutrition Consultations

As adults we often lead very busy lives.  We might be working long hours in the office or have a long commute, we may be a parent and spend our day caring for others and constantly on the go or we might be juggling work and family and a whole host of other things.  What this ultimately means is that we spend little time really and truly looking after ourselves.  We rely heavily on our health allowing us to do what we choose to without always caring for it in the way that it needs.

Many of the clients that I see have made the decision to invest in their health.  The decision to invest in health for some comes from years of putting up with certain symptoms, for others it’s because health has suddenly changed and is stopping normal function or weight gain has got to the point where nothing is working.  For many more it’s because traditional medicine is supporting well to a point but health is still suboptimal and nutrition is a consideration to see if it might help.

As a nation we have got a bit unhealthy.  We aren’t sleeping well, exercise levels are low and stress levels of the nation are through the roof.  Rates of obesity have continued to increase and the latest Public Health England statistics released for 2015 show that 63% of adults in England are overweight or obese and the main reason stated as being that we live in an obesogenic environment where unhealthy choices are the norm.  Rates of diabetes continue to increase too with an estimated 9% of the adult populate living with the condition.  Many other conditions are on the rise too and with most they are prevented with a healthier diet and lifestyle.

Nutrition support isn’t a miracle cure and certainly isn’t a substitute for medical advice.  A nutritional therapist will not claim that they can cure you and they can’t diagnose or “treat” conditions either.   It involves hard work and change from you but in a guided and realistic way that is based in science.

Considering nutrition support and seeking advice from Apples to Zinc Nutrition might help you is you are

  • Low on energy and lost your sparkle
  • Hooked on sugar or caffeine
  • In a crazed hormonal state
  • Struggling with weight management
  • Embarrassed with your digestive system
  • Feeling tired all the time
  • Wondering if certain foods aren’t agreeing with you
  • Wanting to understand how food can support your training schedule
  • Feeling overwhelmed with stress
  • Fed up with eating the same old meals
  • …..and so much more!

My Approach to Health and Wellbeing

We are all unique – that’s why we are amazing!  So, it stands to reason that our route back to health is unique too.  Whilst generalized “one size fits all” approaches work for some they don’t work for everyone and tailored nutrition and lifestyle advice gets results

My approach is based in science and aims to explore potential imbalances with the body systems that might be contributing to your symptoms.  Using science-based evidence and my experience we then look at supporting those imbalances to help the body to reset.

Before seeing me, you complete a comprehensive health questionnaire and food diary.  We go through your questionnaire at our first session and really start to understand your health and the explore your health goals.  I assess symptoms, body mass and body fat, sleep, exercise, stress and your routine to get a picture of you.  We discuss food and drink likes and dislikes and your budget and cooking skills so that I can recommend a healthy balanced diet containing all the right food groups and nutrients that works for you.

Generally, it takes 3 or 4 sessions to make all the necessary changes and the packages that are available reflect this.  I do have a health explorer one off session available for those who aren’t able to commit to a full package or want to test the water.

I do often recommend additional tests and supplements that may help us explore or support your health even better.

Making changes to the way you eat isn’t a short-term fix.  The plans I provide are realistic but challenging and are designed to be followed long term.  Weight loss isn’t always rapid but my aim is for you to lose weight in a steady and sustainable way and allow your body to adjust to the changes.

I’d love to support you too.  Please get in touch and we can discuss how nutritional therapy might be able to help you.

"Janet is a professional, caring, highly knowledgeable nutritionist. She resolved several long-standing issues in a few sessions with a good sense of humour and very good explanations. I would add that I did a stool test which was essential to getting to the bottom of the problems and it should be almost mandatory to get the solution that’s right for you "
